New Farm Bill Web Site Generates Media Storm

We can't post all the links because the story is in hundreds of media outlets.

But not even the reporters who've covered the database have seen the version my colleagues Chris Campbell and Sean Gray finished polishing yesterday afternoon. That's the one that will go public today, at 12 noon Eastern time.

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, Mulch will undergo some significant changes too. For one thing, the route to access for our new Farm Bill 2007 Web site will be through Mulch...

Great media work, period. I see good old Charlie Stenholm is quoted in several of these articles. Interestingly, he has now seen the light on limiting subsidies:

Stenholm does believe farmers should get serious about some kind of payment limitation in the future. "We've winked and nodded to each other long enough, now we've got to do something. There has to be changes, but I don't know if the adjusted gross income idea is the way to go.

"For years, we've dealt with the payment limitation issue," he adds. "I don't believe anyone should be limited to how big you should get – that's called efficiency. But I do believe there is a limit to how much you should be subsidized."

Now that's not in his most recent quotes, and it would be great if somebody would ask him about his conversion directly.

Why are farm subsidies so high & why do they go to wealthy people who may not or probably don't farm - as in the Texas LDP program.
If all subsidies for farms went to working small farms I wouldn't care but that is not the case & if even 1 billion of these subsidies was diverted to food stamps & food banks - hunger in the USA could be ended in a year or two. And another amount should be diverted to medicare & other medical needs for our population. Why isn't it? Why is our government always talking about medical expenses being out of control & not a word about farm subsidies. Its disgusting.

It's pay back time, all farms that have received money to not grow can now grow corn for fuel, the other farms grow corn for food. keep it seperated. Tis time for these farms to produce. The hand out is over. Why arn't the three wannbee leaders talking about this?
Take a look at zip code 85614 Green Valley AZ. This is where the money goes but the farms are not here, this is a retirment area. What a joke.

Why don't home builders who are just as important as farmers and who are filing bankrupty at record levels getting these WELFARE HANDOUTS ALSO?

There is no one raising crops in the 77328 or 77327 zip. Some getting Subsidys for Rice and Sorgum but I know there is not any planted are grown here.
