Farm Bill Update: Their Dog Ate The Trade Title

AP is now reporting that the House and Senate may have to repass the entire farm bill tomorrow because someone forgot to include the 34-page trade title in the version Bush got from the Hill and vetoed today.

An extension of the current bill also will be needed to prevent a trip in time back to 1949, when the underlying permanent law was passed.

House Rules Committee Chair Louise Slaughter:

"We will have to repass the whole thing, as will the Senate," said Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y. "We can't let the farm bill just die."

The possibility never crossed my mind.

(snort) I am sorry...this is rather funny, esp after watching the over-ride vote yesterday. Watching these people(Repubs and Dems in favor of the over-ride) just was sickening. Their thought processes just aren't in touch with reality. OR perhaps they are: the reality of big bucks/paybacks from the farm lobby in their particular districts. To the four Reps(Dem and Repub) who dared to speak out against this bill: I salute you. You are bright lights of common sense in a cess-pool of self-serving politicos. Thank you!
