EWG Reaction to CARB Indirect Land Use Decision

The California Air Resources Board ruled yesterday that indirect land use changes would be a factor in determining whether biofuels will meet the required green house gas emissions to be set under California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard.

"California's decision to move ahead with a low carbon fuel standard is an important step forward in our fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We hope California's action will unleash the creativity of entrepreneurs and the marketplace to bring on board new vehicle technology and truly climate-friendly biofuels," said Craig Cox, Environmental Working Group Midwest Vice President from EWG's office in Ames, IA in reaction to the CARB decision.

"We urge EPA to follow California's lead and ensure the federal Renewable Fuel Standard moves the entire country in same direction," Cox concluded.
